Father/Daughter Dance 2011

So Friday February 11 was the annual Indian Princess Father/Daughter dance.  This one was particulary emotional for me.  For one, we had to shop in the Junior section for Kaitlyn's dress.  And another, she is now one of the older girls at the dance (I felt like she was the youngest for so long).  And finally, next year in 7th grade, the real boy/girl dances begin.  She was so excited for this dance and it made me so happy that she still really looked forward to it.  Now back to the dress.  I was clueless on where to go.  It seems the past couple years Justice has been the store of choice.  But Justice is no longer cool.  She only shops at Aeropostale (sp?), Hollister and American Eagle (she would shop at Abercrombie as well if it didn't cost a fortune).  And as for shoes, she only wears Uggs (she has 5 pairs!) and sneakers for basketball and gym.  So it was quite a challenge this year.  We started at Macy's and it was a bust.  We then ventured to H&M and it seems as if this store creates their clothes for extremely tall women (not that theres anything wrong with being extremely tall, my dear sister in law Kris is a whopping 6 foot and could be a model!).  Finally we went to Boscov's in the Social Dresses section in Juniors.  And we scored a beautiful dress.  She fell in love with it instantly and thankfully so did I.  Her Gramy just had to remove some scratchy material underneath the skirt and she was good to go.  I just got her a pair of silver flats from Target.  After school we went and got her nails done and they looked beautiful.  It was only $6 for a painting and they even put pretty little silver designs on 2 of her nails.  So she showered, I curled her hair and put a little make up on and she was transformed into a beautiful young woman right before my eyes!  Her Daddy brought her home a beautiful bouquet of little lillies and daisies.  He quickly got ready, made sure he had enough cash for the cash bar (for her shirly temples and his beers!), took lots of pictures and they were off for their night of fun.  The dance was at the Concord Country Club and the buffet was a breakfast for dinner theme!  Very cool...there were omelets, french toast sticks, sausage and bacon and cupcakes for dessert.  The girls danced and played hide and seek and Jason and Kaitlyn were home by 9:45pm.  Now that's my kind of dance.  I love the innocence and sweetness of it.  And I love how much Jason and Kaitlyn still enjoy it.  Jason asked her if this would be their last year.  And Kaitlyn quickly said No way, we are going next year too.  I just hope and pray that next year at this time she still feels the same way.  A lot of girls end their Indian Princess days after 6th grade.  Bittersweet.  Why do they grow up so fast?
